E2: Enlightenment Insight of the Week – Sapere Vadere

“When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.”

Very few people know or understand Leonardo da Vinci’s legendary creative genius. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer.

He said that secret to all of his accomplishments was Sapere Vedere, knowing how to see. The phrase combines the Latin “sapere,” which means knowing how, and “vedere” which means to see. Kevin Halls explains in his book, Aspire, “Da Vinci understood that we truly see with our brain first, our heart second and then our eyes. Knowing how to see, he realized, is crucial to living a life of significance. It enables us to focus on what we want to see happen instead of focusing on what we don’t want to see happen. People without sapere vedere say, “Ill cross that bridge when I get there.” Those with sapere vedere say, “Ill see that bridge before I cross it.”

Ask yourself: Is there anything in life you want that you don’t have?

See yourself owning that business, see yourself in that new job position, see yourself running that marathon, see yourself as the person you aspire to be.

Focus on SEEING what it is that you want and go get it. Period!!
